Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to develop joint projects in agriculture, geological exploration, energy, construction materials, and transport, the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov told the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel, commenting on the outcomes of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the minister, the two sides have agreed on a number of projects to be carried out on Kyrgyz territory.
"We've agreed to set up a joint cluster for cattle breeding, as well as growing rice and potatoes in Kyrgyzstan. Our entrepreneurs are actively moving into the construction materials sector, producing aluminum profiles, polymer products, and building mixes," he said.
Geological exploration will be a new area of cooperation. Uzbekistan's relevant ministries and specialized companies plan to carry out exploration work on Kyrgyz territory.
"Our companies have accumulated real expertise in this field. Uzbekistan's relevant ministries and specialized companies will now work on conducting geological exploration in Kyrgyzstan," Kudratov noted.
Energy was also named among the priority areas, including the Kambar-Ata hydropower plant project and the development of small-scale power generation.
The two sides separately discussed transport cooperation. According to the minister, the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project is running ahead of schedule.
In addition, the parties reached agreements on creating more favorable conditions for cargo transit, processing, and customs clearance.
Following the Uzbek-Kyrgyz business forum, documents were signed and agreements reached on projects and trade contracts worth more than $1.5 billion, the minister said.
Kudratov noted that bilateral trade between the two countries has grown 45% since the start of the year, reaching $624.6 million. By the end of 2025, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan had reached $1.2 billion, up 37% from 2024, when it stood at $874.7 million.
"We received specific instructions from our leaders, identified additional product categories and nomenclature, and identified exporters and importers from both countries. Together, we will work to meet the goal of substantially increasing trade turnover," he said.
The minister called the state visit a historic event that, in his assessment, will soon open a new chapter in Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations.
Earlier, on July 30, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said the new agreements would fully resolve outstanding border issues and increase the number of border crossing points between the two countries from 15 to 30. He also announced a decision to open a Kyrgyz consulate-general in Andijan.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev described the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway now under construction as the "project of the century," one that "will completely change the region's geopolitics." He also said Uzbekistan has a stake in a strong, stable Kyrgyzstan and will continue to support the reforms underway in the neighboring country.
Following the talks, the two presidents signed a Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The parties also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, trade, and logistics.
