Tashkent's Center for the Organization of Road Traffic (CORT) for the first time has published daily traffic figures for the capital city.
Reportedly, a total of 1,502,057 vehicles passed through the city's streets and roads over the course of September 4 — an increase of 14,807, or 1%, over the previous day's count of 1,487,250.
During the day, 1,670 buses operated across 170 routes, carrying 1,228,158 passengers, while the Tashkent Metro carried a further 862,053 riders.
Monitoring by CORT's situation center found that during peak hours, congestion at six intersections reached a level of 7 on the center's scale, while one intersection exceeded that threshold.
In areas experiencing heavy congestion, traffic signal timing was adjusted, with green-light durations extended along key routes as needed. Traffic police officers were also deployed to manage the flow at problem intersections, the center said in its statement.
Over the course of the day, 4,751 traffic violations were recorded. Authorities also logged 22 road accidents, which left four people with serious injuries.
It is worth noting that no such statistics for Tashkent — or for Uzbekistan more broadly — had ever been made public before. The center said the practice of releasing daily traffic data would now become permanent.
