The State Security Service said it has uncovered hidden warehouses in the city of Namangan storing uncertified medicines valued at 5.2 billion soums.
An operation found that three city residents, born in 2002, 1997 and 1987, had conspired to set up hidden storage sites in five apartments, the service said. They had been keeping large quantities of medicines lacking quality certificates in order to sell them later, it said.
Officials seized and formally documented 46,865 units of 287 types of medicines that were manufactured abroad and brought into the country illegally. They include Erinit, Gemaza and Phenotropil.
Forensic chemical and commodity expert examinations of the medicines have been ordered, the service said. A pre-investigation inquiry into the case is under way.
Earlier, authorities reported finding more than 1,300 potent medicines in Tashkent and Bukhara.
