Thailand has officially scrapped its 60-day visa-free entry policy for nationals of 93 countries, including Uzbekistan, the Bangkok Post reported, citing Thailand's Royal Gazette.
The measure was signed August 31 by Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The new rules take effect 15 days after publication, on September 15, 2026.
Thailand's Cabinet approved the reduction in visa-free stays back in May, in response to mounting concerns over abuse of the policy by foreign nationals. Authorities said some visitors had been entering the country under the guise of tourism while actually running illegal businesses, working without permits, or taking part in transnational criminal operations.
Under the new rules, nationals of 60 countries — including Australia, the United Kingdom, European Union member states, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Turkey, Ukraine and Japan — will still be able to enter Thailand visa-free, though only for up to 30 days. Kyrgyzstan is the only Central Asian country on that list.
nationals of these 60 countries will also be limited to no more than two land-border entries into Thailand per calendar year, with exceptions granted to nationals of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Separately, nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia will be eligible for visas on arrival.
Uzbekistan does not appear on any of these lists. According to Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbek nationals traveling to Thailand for tourism will need to obtain a visa in advance starting September 15.
