The Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, held a meeting with the chief of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, Mohammad Karim Hashemi.
During the talks, the parties discussed the ways to expand transit and logistics cooperation, boosting bilateral freight volumes, and further developing trade relations. The two officials exchanged views on fully leveraging the existing transit potential of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, accelerating delivery times, and expanding logistics infrastructure.
Specifically, they reviewed strategies for the rapid delivery of Afghan imports and Uzbek exports, improvements to warehousing infrastructure, and the construction of additional railway links connecting to the Hairatan and Naibabad stations.
The meeting also focused on increasing the volume of Afghan transit cargo passing through Uzbekistan. Additionally, both sides explored ways to streamline the transport of goods originating from Chinese ports and Persian Gulf countries through Uzbek transport corridors.
Furthermore, the officials touched upon expanding the network of quality control laboratories in Afghanistan and reviewing certain transport expenses that impact the operations of logistics companies.
At the conclusion of the negotiations, the Afghan delegation expressed its readiness to pursue joint projects aimed at developing transit, logistics, and regional trade, as well as to maintain close cooperation to address existing bottlenecks.
