September was among the warmest Septembers on record in Uzbekistan, the national hydrometeorological service Uzhydromet said in a review of the month's weather.

The month was fairly warm without sharp temperature swings. Daytime highs across most of the country mostly stayed between 29 and 34 degrees Celsius, reaching 35 to 37 degrees in places and up to 38 degrees in the south and desert zone. Those readings remained below September records of 38 to 40 degrees across most of the country. Average monthly temperatures were 1.2 to 2.5 degrees above the norm across most of the country. In Tashkent, the month ranked fourth among the warmest Septembers on record.

The month was also extremely dry. Most of the country, excluding the north and east, saw either no rain or one to three brief, light showers. Karakalpakstan and most of the Fergana Valley, however, received 1.5 to 3 times their monthly norm of rain, and up to 6 times in some districts.

Winds strengthened to 13 to 18 meters per second in places in the north, south and desert zone, and gusts reached 20 to 21 meters per second on Sept. 2-3 in the Ustyurt area and on Sept. 20 in highland Tashkent province. Strong winds raised dust in some areas, and dust haze was common. On Sept. 24, a mudflow was recorded in Chust district of Namangan province.

Temperatures eased steadily in the final week of September, with daytime highs mostly between 24 and 27 degrees.
