Iran is set to hold six days of mourning ceremonies to bid farewell to the late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Nuriddin Ismoilov, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber, will attend the events.
The mourning ceremonies are scheduled to begin on July 4 at the Musalla complex in Tehran, followed by funeral prayers on July 5. A massive mourning procession is also planned in the capital. Commemorative events will take place across other Iranian cities, including Qom and Mashhad. Additionally, special ceremonies are expected to be held in Najaf and Karbala, Iraq—cities revered as holy sites by Shia Muslims.
The final burial ceremony for the Supreme Leader will take place on July 9 in Mashhad.
The former Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed on February 28 during the initial waves of military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iranian territory. Initially, his farewell ceremony was slated for March 4 and expected to last three days. However, Iranian officials postponed the event on the scheduled day, attributing the delay to the reportedly overwhelming number of people wishing to pay their final respects.
