The Government of Uzbekistan strictly forbade the use of child labor for cotton harvesting in 2017, as well as the forced labor of employees of healthcare and education organizations.

First deputy minister of employment and labor relations, Erkin Mukhitdinov at the meeting with a delegation of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on August 15 underscored that the Cabinet of Ministers Uzbekistan enacted a relevant protocol decision on August 8.

Minister Mukhitdinov also noted that thanks to the nationwide information campaign, the public is now better aware of the forced labor practices.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to the prevention of child labor, briefing on the reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at preventing human trafficking and the major shift in the stance with respect to labor migration.
