Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

At the start of the conversation, they noted with satisfaction that the strategic partnership between the two countries and their broad practical cooperation are developing steadily.

They said effective high-level dialogue in recent years has taken relations to a new level. Work is now under way with Qatari companies in energy, the chemical industry, food security, transport and construction, and the disbursement of investments has risen markedly since the start of this year, they added.

They also noted that fast-growing cultural and humanitarian ties are bringing the two peoples closer together.

The leaders identified promising areas for bilateral cooperation. A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan is due to attend the Doha Forum in December, and meetings of the intergovernmental joint commission and the Business Council are planned on the sidelines of the event. They also exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues.

During a working visit to Baku, Mirziyoyev met Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on Oct. 14. The talks noted that effective ties have been established at all levels. Trade turnover has risen 30% since the start of the year, and cooperation projects in geology, energy, construction, transport, logistics, light industry, tourism and other sectors have entered an active phase.
