The Tashkent mayor Shavkat Umurzakov told the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel about plans for a major overhaul of the capital's road network.

According to him, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has drawn $300 million for the Tashkent mayor’s office for the major reconstruction and overhaul.

"These funds are being used for the major reconstruction and overhaul of Shota Rustaveli street. Similarly, it is planned to build and repair 200 kilometers of roads and four overpasses in Tashkent," the mayor said.

"Now, the president gave directives to amend the documents related to the current construction-related legislation. During major road overhaul in Tashkent, all work must be carried out from wall to wall of buildings on both sides of the street,” Umurzakov emphasized.

Previously, road works were carried out only up to the so-called “red line” of the roadway, which often left pedestrian and adjacent areas without improvement. The new approach will create well-groomed and harmonious streets without abandoned areas.

In May, the Tashkent mayor’s office presented a project for the comprehensive reconstruction of Shota Rustaveli street worth $50 million, scheduled for the summer. This will be the first street with a dedicated lane for buses in the center (where the tram used to run).

On Wednesday, the President of Uzbekistan familiarized himself with the "Atlas of Solutions" - a catalog of rules for the design, installation, and operation of urban facilities in the capital and New Tashkent. It presents recommendations for the improvement of public spaces, bringing the facades of buildings to a single architectural appearance.

Projects with CSCEC

In November, the Tashkent mayor’s office and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation agreed on projects worth almost $ 1 billion.

The first project, worth $ 300 million, is planned to reconstruct the road infrastructure of Tashkent. Modernization of roads and related facilities is planned, as well as the involvement of more than 200 specialists, including surveyors and transport engineers.

The second project involves the creation of a joint venture to train architects, designers and engineers in the field of road construction.

The third project is aimed at the design and construction of bridges. The $259 million worth of contract involves the development of modern bridges to reduce traffic congestion and improve transport infrastructure.

In addition, a modern residential complex is planned for $440 million. The complex will include residential buildings, business centers, educational institutions and shopping areas.
