Durdona Khakimova, whose dismembered body was found in garbage containers in Istanbul at the end of January, was not the only victim to die in this manner. Missing Sayyora Ergashalieva was also presumably murdered by two Uzbek detainees arrested at the airport.
According to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, Ergashalieva, a close friend of Khakimova, was 32 years old.
According to preliminary reports, on January 22, the deceased and the suspects (31-year-old Dilshod Turdimurotov and 29-year-old Gofurjon Kamalkhojaev) dined together at a restaurant in the Fatih district. During the meeting, a conflict arose between Ergashalieva and Kamalkhojaev, presumably related to her intention to return to Uzbekistan.
On January 23, the men stabbed Ergashalieva to death, dismembered her body, and carried it in bags to containers on the street in the Fatih district.
On January 24, the men invited Khakimova by sending her a text message from Ergashalieva's phone. They treated her in a similar manner and left her body parts in containers in the Şişli district.
Turkish media reported on the discovery of Khakimova's body. However, the body has not yet been delivered for forensic examination.
The suspects have been remanded in custody, pleaded guilty, and their documents have been submitted to the court.
The Consulate General stated that they are constantly monitoring the situation and cooperating with Turkish law enforcement agencies.
The Birgün newspaper reported that Ergashalieva had arrived in Turkey on December 28. Her family has been unable to contact her since January 23.
CCTV footage shows that Turdimurotov and his friend Kamalhojaev visited Ergashalieva at her home on January 23. It was there that the crime was committed.
On January 24, the suspects left the house several times carrying black bags and then left with white suitcases.
At the end of January, Khakimova's body, 37 and her two children were returned to their homeland.
News of her murder sparked demonstrations in Turkey. Women demanded justice for Durdona and other victims of crimes.
