The government has approved a project to modify the general master plan for the city of Jizzakh. According to the document, the master plan outlines the key directions for developing the city, taking into account its socioeconomic development characteristics, natural and climatic conditions, and projected future population growth.
The plan also covers the zoning of areas and the order in which they will be built up, measures to protect the city from natural and man-made emergencies, and steps to develop engineering, transport, and social infrastructure. It sets out the ratio of built-up to undeveloped land, reserve areas and boundaries for future urban expansion, and design solutions that account for the city's economic, industrial, and territorial potential as well as its expected rate of population growth.
Under the document, by the end of the planning period Jizzakh's population is projected to grow from 191,600 to 460,000, while the city's territory will expand from 6,520 to 12,730 hectares. The city will grow through the incorporation of 24 mahallas from Sharof Rashidov district.
The total housing stock will be increased from 3,048.88 thousand square meters to 9,660 thousand square meters — nearly a threefold rise.
Housing availability per capita will rise from 15.9 square meters to 21 square meters.
The number of places in preschool institutions will grow from 11,800 to 29,400, places in general education schools from 34,300 to 78,200, and hospital beds from 2,323 to 11,400.
Capacity for drinking water supply, sewerage, electricity, gas, and heating will be increased several times over. In addition, the plan calls for expanding green space from 50 to 460 hectares, creating recreational areas along the Sangzor River, and landscaping the areas around canals and collectors.
Earlier, the general master plan for the city of Bukhara was approved.
