The city is setting up designated pick-up and drop-off zones near schools to allow students to get in and out of vehicles safely, authorities say.

According to the Road Traffic Safety Organization Center, the first such zones have been established outside School No. 5 in the Yunusabad district and School No. 42 in the Shaykhontohur district.

Road signs and markings have been installed in these areas to allow vehicles to make brief, orderly stops. The zones are designed to prevent children from being let out directly into traffic lanes, cut down on haphazard parking outside schools, and help manage traffic flow during the morning rush and at the end of the school day.

The designated areas also give parents a safe, designated spot to drop off or pick up their children. Similar zones are now being planned for other schools across Tashkent.

Ahead of the start of the school year, the city's transport department urged drivers and parents to strictly follow traffic rules during the new academic year. Officials specifically recommended slowing down near schools, yielding to pedestrians, and avoiding blocking bus stops, sidewalks or lanes reserved for public transport.

Authorities also emphasized that greater use of public transportation would help ease congestion on city streets and reduce traffic jams around schools.
