Business owner attacked the Kokdala district mayor in Kashkadarya province Khurram Juraev, with an axe at a cotton collection point Wednesday.
The perpetrator was waiting for the governor to arrive and struck him from behind, according to the report. Juraev is in hospital and is said to be in satisfactory condition, the sources added.
The Interior Ministry’s press service confirmed the incident and said the prosecutor’s office is looking into it. Ahror Sodiqov, head of the province administration’s press service, said he was “not aware of the exact details.”
The conflict reportedly stems from the planned demolition of the entrepreneur’s shop. The district administration sued over the demolition, but the court ruled in the businessman’s favor, the sources said. The case was later transferred to another district court, which upheld the administration’s claim. The administration then gave the entrepreneur a week to tear the shop down.
Juraev has served as the mayor of Kokdala district since April 19, 2022.
