In the evening of August 8, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the presidential press service said.

The parties reportedly emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Kyrgyzstan and expressed hope for the swift normalization of the situation within the legal framework, the statement said.

The need for close cooperation on the legal finalization of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border and strengthening its security in accordance with the Agreement on Confidence-Building Measures at the Border was noted.

The two leaders also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres and reiterated their strong commitment to further advance full-scale cooperation, strengthening friendship, good-neighborly relations and strategic partnerships ties.

On Thursday, former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev was detained. He surrendered to the authorities after the confrontation with the support of supporters. The special operation to detain him lasted two days.
