President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a video conference addressed to the public on Wednesday. He emphasized that "thanks to the early establishment of lockdown measures and to our people patiently complying with them, we were able to prevent the spread of infection in many distrcits and cities."

“For more than a month and a half, our people have been staying home, manifesting courage. For our people, who are not used to sitting idle, putting up families, children above all else, working day and night for their good, this forced lockdown, of course, is not easy,” he said.

“Given that the sanitary-epidemiological situation in our country is gradually stabilizing, and also after consulting with specialists, we came to the conclusion that the time has come to take the following steps to relax the lockdown. After all, life goes on. We must not forget for tomorrow and the future of our people,” the president said.

Given the positive evolvement of the sanitary-epidemiological situation, weather conditions and numerous appeals of citizens, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to allow parents and children to have a walk within the neighbourhood, strictly adherence to safety measures.

In order to prevent the loss of ripened agricultural products, as well as in response to requests from the public, interprovincial and intercity transportation will be allowed for the delivery and sale of fruits and vegetables and melons grown by farmers.

“Also taking into account the reduction in the number of infected, I consider it appropriate to gradually relax the restrictions on the use of personal vehicles.” - continued the president.

At the same time, “it seems possible to allow our esteemed scientists, scholars at research institutes, professors and teachers to continue activities in their laboratories and departments in compliance with sanitary standards. We must provide them with the opportunity to gradually prepare for the organization of further scientific and educational process, ” he added.

“Of course, as the situation improves, we will be gradually further even more confidently relaxing the lockdown after May 10th. However, I repeat: the universal observance of sanitary norms and social distancing should be of paramount importance,” he concluded.
