On May 4, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a government meeting on enhancing efficiency in the energy sector and optimizing energy consumption, the presidential press service said.

He noted that in Uzbekistan, 2–3 times more energy is consumed in Uzbekistan to produce a US $ 1,000 worth of goods than in developed countries. 44% of the annual demand for oil products is imported.

In this regard, he set a task to reduce energy consumption by 2–2.5 times in the coming years.

He also pointed to the need to adapting the engines of manufactured agricultural machineries and trucks to natural gas. Before the year-end, three propane-butane mixture plants and a synthetic fuel production plant (GTL) will be commissioned.

40% of the country's electricity is used for heating and lighting today. There is also a lot of overspending in this process. 400 kWh of electricity is used For heating 1 sq. m/ in Uzbekistan on average, while in developed countries - 170 kWh.

Based on this, the president gave instructions on the widespread use of energy-saving technologies in the design and construction of multi-story buildings, as well as attracting foreign investment to improve the energy efficiency of social facilities.

The task is to develop a program of measures to improve energy efficiency in the context of spheres and industries. The energy efficiency of 285 large industrial enterprises will be studied with the involvement of international energy audit organizations. Electricity tariffs for entrepreneurs who have organized work in three shifts will be reduced by 1.5 times during the night shift.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of stimulating the use of renewable energy, updating the related regulation and providing incentives for consumers based on world experience, as well attraction of direct investments in the sector, construction of solar photovoltaic and wind power stations in the provinces.

In addition, he touched upon the need to introduction of an electricity and natural gas consumption accounting automated system.

Given the lack of funds at the fuel and energy enterprises due to lockdown, measures have been identified to provide them with financial support and increase working capital.
