Construction has been completely suspended at 59 sites in Tashkent city due to violation of building codes, the press service of the Tashkent city mayor’s office said.

The authorities stressed that in recent months, numerous cases of violations of building codes and legislation by some developers have been identified. Some of them began construction without the necessary permits, examinations and technical reports, and also tried to illegally sell housing to individuals.

As a result, such actions lead to the fact that individual compatriots, having trusted unscrupulous companies, lose their savings and are left without housing.

The Tashkent city mayor’s office said it, together with the relevant agencies, takes a “tough stance on this matter”. In a number of districts of the capital, construction work has been completely stopped at 59 sites for failure to hold a full package of documents, the sites have been disconnected from the power supply.

It added that oversight and monitoring at construction sites are ongoing, and legal measures would be taken for each violation

The office also gave a number of recommendations to individuals who are planning to buy apartments:

• demand and carefully check the originals of all documents for the purchased property (cadastre, expert opinions and advice, technical inspection report);
• do not transfer money to sellers in cash or unofficially, carefully study all points of the contract;
• at the slightest doubt about the legality of the developer or the object, as well as if the company delays the provision of documents, contact the official bot of the Tashkent mayor’s office, where information on the legal status of the object will be provided.

Before starting construction or trading activities, the entities shall draw up all the necessary documents. The Tashkent city mayor’s office will respond harshly and without compromise to any violations of construction requirements and actions that harm the interests of individuals, - the Tashkent mayor’s office stated.
