The Tashkent city administration announced that in the light of increased air pollution and dust levels in the capital, it commenced spraying water on roads, watering green areas, and operating fountains and microclimate devices. The steps are aimed at reducing the amount of fine particles in the air in the short term.
According to the Tashkent city administration, one of the most effective and efficient steps in cases of high dustiness is watering road surface and adjacent areas. This method has a scientific basis and is used in a number of large cities around the world during periods of increased air pollution.
Reportedly, spraying water on roads does not completely solve the problem of air pollution, but it is an emergency step that allows you to significantly reduce the amount of dust within a few hours.
At the same time, as part of a comprehensive approach to reducing air pollution, it is planned to:
- conduct raids on greenhouse farms;
- installation of filters in boiler rooms;
- strengthening environmental control, etc., are also being carried out.
The Tashkent city administration recommends that residents monitor official information, reduce outdoor activities on days with high air pollution, and wear masks when necessary.
The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, in cooperation with relevant organizations, also reported that water sprinklers have been launched to reduce dust pollution on streets and green areas of Tashkent.
“Special devices will water the road surface and trees, helping to settle natural dust and improve the city's air quality.
All fountains in the capital have also been put into operation and switched to 24/7 mode. Their operation will help maintain the microclimate and reduce dust pollution in public places.
