President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Islamabad Thursday. the press service of the Uzbek president said.

The parties discussed the ways to expand cooperation in various fields, as well as international and regional issues.

In 2025, the two-way trade reached almost $500 million, with the countries aiming $2 billion in the coming years.

Currently, there are about 230 Pakistani-invested enterprises in Uzbekistan in the textile, pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural, and other industries.

An agreement was reached to establish an Uzbek-Pakistani Business Council, a Forum of Provinces, and to significantly expand the range of goods under the existing Preferential Trade Agreement.

Reportedly, in preparation for the visit, a project portfolio worth nearly $3.5 billion was set up in the fields of agriculture, electrical engineering, geology, pharmaceuticals, light and food industries, and others.

The parties stressed the importance of expediting the Trans-Afghan Railway project and promoting the Pakistan-China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan transport corridor.

This year, Pakistan is scheduled to host Uzbekistan Culture Week and Uzbek Cinema Days. The President of Uzbekistan proposed establishing a joint cultural center in Lahore to promote the heritage of the Baburids Dynasty (Mughals).
