The Amir Temur Square will be closed for renovation from March 23 to April 7, the Tashkent city administration said. Metro exits into the square will be temporarily closed, while the traffic on adjacent streets will not be restricted.
Pedestrian area pavement will be repaired and partially resurfaced, utilities and irrigation systems upgraded, and landscaping will be carried out.
"The renovation of the irrigation system will allow more efficient water use and irrigation of existing green spaces," the announcement stated.
The city administration stated that "no trees would be affected. On the contrary, additional plantings and landscaping improvements are planned."
The renovations are part of the celebrations of the 690th anniversary of the birth of Amir Temur, the founder and leader of the Timurid Empire, which is celebrated on April 8. Starting this year, April has been declared the month of Amir Temur in Uzbekistan.
