On July 10, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals to implement international standards across Uzbekistan’s specialized secondary, vocational, and higher education programs, as well as to expand collaboration with leading global universities.
The presentation highlighted the planned establishment of an International University City in Tashkent, which will host prominent foreign and domestic universities. The project's development will draw on the models of Education City in Qatar, Dubai International Academic City, and the Incheon Global Campus.
The President instructed officials to draft proposals to attract branches of prestigious foreign universities, construct educational campuses and student dormitories, streamline licensing requirements, and provide grants, scholarships, tax exemptions, and customs privileges. Additionally, a plan was proposed to partially compensate foreign universities for royalty fees.
The project's primary goal is to establish Uzbekistan as the region's leading educational hub by widely implementing international curricula and standards.
The presentation also noted that over the past eight years, higher education enrollment in the country has surged from 9% to 44%, with the student population growing from 270,000 to 1.7 million. Furthermore, in 2026, vocational education programs from Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, China, South Korea, and other nations are being integrated into 100 out of 643 technical colleges nationwide.
