Gishtkuprik and Zhibek Zholy checkpoints on the Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan border are undergoing modernization using cutting-edge digital technology to transform them into smart customs complexes. This upgrade aims to ensure fast and transparent border control while boosting trade and transit capacity between the two nations.
Delegations led by Gayrat Nosirov, First Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, and Zhandos Duysimbiev, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan, inspected the ongoing modernization efforts at the border checkpoints.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has consistently implemented reforms to upgrade its border infrastructure according to international standards, increase throughput capacity, and widely deploy digital technology. As part of these initiatives, the Gishtkuprik customs post has been fully refitted to operate as a modern, smart customs hub.
The checkpoint now features automated control systems, high-resolution inspection scanners, risk management mechanisms, and advanced information and communication technologies. These advancements allow for rapid and transparent processing of citizens, vehicles, and cargo, significantly streamlining clearance procedures.
Simultaneously, the Kazakh side is modernizing the Zhibek Zholy customs post based on modern engineering solutions and digital management tools.
During the meeting, officials discussed expanding practical cooperation between the two customs services, improving electronic data exchange for goods and vehicles, implementing joint digital initiatives, and enhancing border control efficiency.
Both parties emphasized that these upgrades will drive foreign trade growth, accelerate transit transport, boost the competitiveness of logistics corridors, and further simplify border crossing procedures.
