A female driver operating a Chevrolet Tracker struck and killed a 6-year-old child in Tashkent, according to a report by the Millar program on the Milliy TV channel.
The tragic accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on July 1 on Chuldarakht Street in the Mirzo-Ulughbek district. Dashcam and surveillance footage reveals that the young boy ran out into the street from behind a parked Chevrolet Cobalt. Upon spotting the oncoming vehicle, the child attempted to run away, but the driver continued forward and struck him. The vehicle then ran over the child with both its front and rear wheels.
The victim's grieving father firmly believes that the driver was distracted and failed to watch the road.
"The boy appeared right in front of her, took four steps, and tried to run to safety. I am a driver myself, I know how to handle a car. If a person is looking at the road, they will either slam on the brakes or swerve to the right. But even though my son tried to get out of the way, she plowed straight into him and ran him over. She ran him over with both sets of wheels. I believe this woman was not looking ahead at all and was completely ignoring the road," the boy's father stated.
The 6-year-old child died at the scene from catastrophic injuries. Medical workers officially pronounced him dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Distraught local residents noted that the lack of basic neighborhood infrastructure forces children to play in dangerous areas.
"Children are always playing on this street because there is absolutely no playground here. We used to use an empty lot over there before construction began. They promised to build a proper playground on that site, but it never happened. There is nowhere else safe nearby for them to play," one resident shared.
Nilufar Madieva, the spokesman to the Tashkent Police Department (TPD), confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department has launched a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code, which addresses violations of traffic safety or vehicle operational rules resulting in death. A formal investigation is currently underway.
