During the first half of 2026, Uzbekistan recorded 447 workplace accidents affecting 494 workers, 137 of whom lost their lives, according to the State Labour Inspection.

The agency's data reveals that 21 of these incidents involved multiple victims, 311 resulted in severe consequences, and 113 led to fatalities. Among the 494 total victims, 337 sustained severe injuries, 20 suffered minor injuries, and 137 died.

Geographically, Tashkent reported the highest number of workplace accidents with 95 incidents. This was followed by the Tashkent province with 58 cases, Kashkadarya with 38, Bukhara with 34, Samarkand and Andijan with 33 each, and Navoi with 31. The lowest figures were recorded in the Khorezm province with 13 cases, and Surkhandarya and Jizzakh with 16 cases each.

By sector, heavy industry saw the highest number of incidents at 144, followed closely by the construction sector with 127 cases. Other sectors accounted for 87 incidents, transport and logistics for 17, and wholesale and retail trade for 16. Healthcare and the agriculture and water management sectors each recorded 14 cases, while education registered 13. The fewest workplace accidents occurred in culture and sports (2), information technology (3), and law enforcement (4).

The inspection agency noted that a total of 10.376 billion soums was recovered and distributed to injured workers and families of the deceased through lump-sum and monthly compensation payments, averaging roughly 21 million soums per victim.

For context, the first quarter of 2026 saw 198 workplace accidents, which resulted in 62 deaths and 146 severe injuries. The bulk of those incidents also occurred in the industry and construction sectors. Looking back at last year, Uzbekistan recorded a total of 849 occupational accidents, resulting in 248 fatalities and 961 injuries, of which 680 were severe and 33 were minor.
