Starting at 2:00 AM on July 16, a section of Mustaqillik Avenue in Tashkent—between Mirzo Ulugbek and Akkurgan streets—will reopen to traffic heading toward the city center, the Center for Traffic Management (CTM) announced.

This side of the roadway has been completely renovated, featuring a newly resurfaced road layer, while ongoing infrastructure upgrades continue along the avenue, according to the statement. The project is now moving into its next phase, which involves repairing the opposite side of the road.

Consequently, all vehicular traffic will be temporarily blocked from 1:00 AM on July 16 until 10:00 PM on July 31 on the section of Mustaqillik Avenue stretching from the Parkent Street intersection to the Mirzo Ulugbek Street junction.

"These temporary restrictions are being put in place to ensure a high-quality, comprehensive overhaul of Mustaqillik Avenue, boost traffic safety, and build a modern, secure, and user-friendly road network for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike," the CTM stated.

Under the original schedule, the repairs on the section of Mustaqillik Avenue from Mirzo Ulugbek Street to Akkurgan Street—which began on July 2—were supposed to wrap up by July 13.

The CTM added that during construction, crews uncovered a need for additional work to bring the drainage and stormwater systems up to code. "This work is absolutely vital to stop water from pooling on the road surface and to extend the lifespan of the new asphalt," the CTM emphasized.

Scorching heat also played a major factor. To comply with labor safety regulations and technical guidelines, road crews are forced to take a 4-to-5-hour break during the hottest parts of the day. The CTM noted that this downtime is critical both to protect worker health and to maintain structural quality.
