Minors in Uzbekistan will soon be exempt from paying state court fees when filing lawsuits independently to protect their rights, the Children's Ombudsman press service announced.

Since 2020, children over the age of 14 have had the legal right to file lawsuits on their own behalf if their rights or legitimate interests are violated. In practice, however, the Ombudsman's office identified the mandatory state court fee as a major barrier preventing minors from seeking judicial relief.

The Children's Ombudsman’s proposal has now been incorporated into a presidential decree signed on July 15, 2026, which focuses on streamlining government services and making them more accessible to citizens.

"This step will remove financial barriers to judicial protection for children and expand their access to justice, ensuring that the best interests of the child are upheld," the Children's Ombudsman stated.

It was previously reported that Uzbekistan is planning to introduce a bill for public discussion that would restrict children's access to social media platforms.
