Uzbekistan imported more than half a million tons of sugar between January and July 2026 — a record figure that already rivals full-year totals from previous years.

According to the State Customs Committee, the country purchased 505,400 tons of sugar from abroad over the seven-month period, worth a combined $348.1 million. That works out to an average import price of $688 per ton.

By comparison, Uzbekistan imported 187,200 tons of sugar worth $116 million during the same period in 2025 — an average of $619 per ton, meaning prices have risen 11% year-on-year.

Sugar imports over the first seven months of this year were 2.7 times higher than in the same period last year, and now nearly match the total volume imported over the entirety of 2025, which stood at 516,000 tons. By contrast, full-year sugar imports in 2024 totaled just 275,200 tons.

July saw the highest monthly import volume of the period, at 99,200 tons, while January recorded the lowest, at 51,500 tons. Imports in the remaining months were as follows:

  • February: 60,000 tons
  • March: 70,900 tons
  • April: 80,000 tons
  • May: 68,500 tons
  • June: 75,300 tons

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's State Statistics Committee reported that domestic sugar prices in July 2026 were actually 6.3% lower than a year earlier.
