Police in Jizzakh province have detained a person suspected of running an illegal cryptocurrency exchange operation, the provincial police department said.
According to preliminary information, the suspect — a student at a university in Tashkent, 24, a Egyptian national, had been illegally exchanging cryptoassets. A search of his phone, conducted in the presence of witnesses, confirmed the presence of a dedictaed software for storing, receiving and sending cryptocurrency, along with a digital crypto wallet.
Police found that a total of 1.25 billion 319 thousand 973 soums' worth of cryptoassets had been exchanged through the wallet.
The Jizzakh police department has opened a criminal case under Article 278-8, Part 3(a) of the Criminal Code, with a preliminary investigation underway.
The case follows the earlier arrest of two young men in Tashkent on similar charges. Between July 2025 and January 2026, they reportedly conducted approximately 793,000 USDT (roughly 9.7 billion soums) in cryptocurrency transactions.
