Pedestrian zone along the Salar Canal, running from the Mirzo-Ulugbek district mayor’s office to Central Park could be extended. The office announced the plan, publishing design sketches of the project.

The stretch of land slated for redevelopment covers roughly 1.5 kilometers. The plan calls for a pedestrian zone and bike paths, along with benches, gazebos, children's playgrounds and outdoor workout areas.

According to the announcement, the ground floors of buildings No. 1A, 2, 3, 5 and 7 in the Mirzakalon Ismoiliy mahalla are also expected to be converted into commercial space, though no further details were given.

The new sketches show a tall fence along the canal as at the district mayor’s office, with the bike path likewise running right along the fence. That means pedestrians will have neither visual access to the water nor any way to get close to it — let alone reach the fence itself.

It remains unclear whether any measures are planned to clean up the canal, which receives runoff and discharge from various sources.
