In Uzbekistan, extraction of natural gas, oil, coal, and gas condensate continued to decline in January-May 2026, the State Statistics Committee said in a report.
Over the five-month period, gas production totaled 15.8 billion cubic meters — 14% (2.6 billion) less than the same period in 2025 (18.4 billion). In May, 3.2 billion cubic meters of gas were extracted, 4.6% below last May's figure. In April, the year-on-year decline had been 18.8%.
For comparison: production in January-May 2019 reached 25.9 billion cubic meters — 10.1 billion, or 64%, more than the current figure.
Coal production for January-May stood at 1.6 million tons, down 32.5% from the same period last year (2.37 million tons). In May, 300,000 tons of coal were mined — 49.9% less than in May 2025. This is one of the sharpest declines among the major energy resources.
Oil production over the five months fell 3.3%, to 261.9 thousand tons. In May, the figure came to 52.9 thousand tons, 6.4% less than a year earlier.
Gas condensate extraction for January-May dropped 18.8%, to 391.7 thousand tons. In May, 72.4 thousand tons were produced, a decline of 16.7% compared to May of last year.
Against this backdrop, overall electricity generation continued to grow, though the pace of growth slowed. From January to May, the country generated 36.17 billion kWh of electricity — 1.7% more than a year earlier. In May, output came to 6.31 billion kWh.
At the same time, large enterprises generated 24.81 billion kWh of electricity over the five months — 5.7% less than in January-May 2025. Their output in May was 4.28 billion kWh, down 3.5% year-on-year.
The growth in overall output was driven by small enterprises (including solar and wind power plants, as well as hydroelectric plants). Since the start of the year, they have generated 11.35 billion kWh of electricity, 22.8% more than last year's figure. In May, their production totaled 2.03 billion kWh.
Gasoline production over the five months rose 2.9%, to 502.2 thousand tons. However, in May, automotive gasoline output came to 84.7 thousand tons, 13.7% less than in May of last year. This is the lowest figure since May 2023 (46.2 thousand tons), when production had dropped sharply due to scheduled maintenance at the Bukhara oil refinery. No maintenance was reported this time around.
For comparison: in April, refineries produced 104.3 thousand tons of gasoline.
Diesel fuel production in January-May totaled 476.4 thousand tons, 7.9% more than in the same period last year. In May, output came to 95.4 thousand tons, also down 17.8% year-on-year.
