The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev over the telephone Saturday, the presidential press service said.
The head of Uzbekistan congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart and the people of the country on the "historic event" - the signing of a peace declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington the day before.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev voiced confidence that the earliest possible official signing of a peace agreement would be important for ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
The parties discussed the ways to further advance and strengthen the Uzbek-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and alliance ties, including in the context of the implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan in July of this year.
Practical works are also underway within the framework of the signed production sharing agreement on a strategic project in the oil and gas sector between Uzbekneftegaz and Azerbaijan's SOCAR.
With US mediation, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a declaration on peaceful relations in Washington on August 8, in which they reiterate their intention to complete work on a peace agreement. "Now they will be friends for a long time," said Donald Trump. The document includes a project for a corridor called the "Trump Route" through the South Caucasus.
