A senior inspector of the passport and visa department at the Tashkent International Airport was detained while accepting a $400 bribe, the State Security Service said.
Reportedly, in return he offered to swiftly put a stamp with information about accompanying person in minor’s passport.
The investigation found established that year-to-date, the inspector received from 42 foreign citizens who were in Uzbekistan, cash amounts from $300 to $700 each for processing exit visas.
Furthermore, he took bribes of $200-400 for fast-track processing of a stamp on the accompanying person for eight nationals of Uzbekistan.
The State Security Service reported of two more cases of detention of police officers on suspicion of corruption.
In particular, an officer of the Bukhara province police department promised a man to help end a criminal case being conducted by the Investigative department of the police department. In return, he demanded 13 thousand dollars and was detained with evidence while receiving it.
Criminal cases have been opened against these law enforcement officers, they have been taken into custody, with investigations underway.
