The president signed amendments criminalizing teaching religion to children without special religious education. Amendments are to be made to Article 229-2 (Violation of the procedure for teaching religious doctrines) of the Criminal Code, criminalizing teaching religious knowledge to a minor without special religious education, without permission from the central governing body of a religious organization, for private teaching of religious knowledge.

The offence shall be punishable by a fine of 50 to 100 BCUs (from 20.6 million to 41.2 million soums), or compulsory community service for up to 360 hours, or correctional labor for up to three years, or house arrest for up to three years, or up to three years of imprisonment.

Now, teaching religious doctrines to individuals, including minors, entails a fine of 5 to 10 BCUs (from 2 million 60 thousand to 4.1 million soums) or arrest for up to 15 days.
