Blink, a geosocial service for convenient and secure location sharing with friends, has quickly gained popularity in Uzbekistan. The app, first developed in Russia, is now used by over 1 million people across the country. In the App Store, Blink now ranks #3, while in Google Play it holds #5 in the “Social Media” category among the most popular apps in Uzbekistan.
According to Blink’s analytics team, the core audience in Uzbekistan is young people: 85% are aged 18–34. Since the beginning of the year, the app has shown strong surge across all major metrics:
- Installations: +583%
- Active users: +359%
- Gender split: 89% male, 11% female
- Platforms: iOS — 42%, Android — 58%
Over the past month (July compared to June), the number of people adding each other as friends rose by 550%. During peak times, daily activity also increased by 40%, along with higher engagement across all main features. For example, in-app chat activity grew by 80%.
In addition to location sharing, Blink allows users to send text messages and sound stickers, check in at specific spots on the map, and view their friends’ movement speed, step count, and device battery level. The “People Nearby” map can display up to 50 users within a 3 km radius. The app also offers mini-games that can be played either with friends or solo.
Check-ins have become 215% more frequent, and the launch of built-in mini-games has advanced by 199%. The “People Nearby” feature has also increased in popularity by 63%, while usage of the step counter has risen by 58%.
The remarkable growth in audience reflects the solid interest in Blink, especially among young people in Uzbekistan. The app has already become a platform for socializing and entertainment. The team continues to invest in the region as one of its priority markets. For example, Uzbek language support is currently being rolled out, and push notifications are already available in Uzbek.
