The Tashkent provincial Council of people's representatives adopted a decree approving the concept of a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit (BRT))system project between Nurafshan city (the administrative center of Tashkent province) and the Tashkent city’s Bektemir district.
The project will cut travel time between Tashkent and Nurafshan in half. BRT will begin in the Bektemir district of the capital near the Kuylyuk market, pass via Urtachirchik and Yukorichirchik districts of the Tashkent province and end in Nurafshan.
The four-lane road is planned to be upgraded to a first-category highway, and an intelligent control system will be implemented. The road will be reconstructed and divided into three functional zones. The total length will be 23 km, with nine stops planned.
The project is estimated at $119.6 million, with the final cost to be determined after the feasibility study is completed. The tender is planned to be held in Q4 of 2026, and the project is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2028.
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a high-capacity, bus-based public transport system that delivers fast, comfortable, and cost-effective mobility by mimicking rail-based metro systems. Key features include dedicated lanes, off-board fare collection, priority at intersections, and elevated platforms. It provides a flexible alternative to metro expansion.
