The press service of the Tashkent mayor’s offic has announced that a concept for the reconstruction of the Yangiabad market is currently under development.

City officials stated that they plan to preserve the market's unique flea market format, its specific trade specialization, and the open right for anyone to sell goods there. According to the administration, all current vendors will retain their existing spots.

The reconstruction aims to improve sanitary conditions, safety protocols, general infrastructure, visitor walkways, and parking facilities.

"The objective is far simpler and clearer: to make Yangiabad more convenient, safer, and more comfortable for those who work there and those who visit," the Tashkent Hokimiyat stated.

The administration also promised to submit the project for public consultation to ensuring the interests of local residents are taken into account.

About Yangiabad Market

Yangiabad market is Tashkent's most famous flea market, widely renowned as a sprawling "museum" of Soviet history and vintage culture. Located in an old industrial zone on the city's outskirts—specifically within the shell of a former concrete panel factory - it is a chaotic but beloved destination for collectors hunting for antiques, Soviet memorabilia, car parts, and even pets.

The market is known for its distinct lack of polish compared to central bazaars like Chorsu, offering a raw, authentic atmosphere where visitors can find virtually everything. Recent rumors of the market's potential demolition had sparked public concern, making the government's commitment to preserving its "flea market" identity a significant development for the community
