Bipartisan congressional delegation including Jason Smith (R-MO), Greg Murphy (R-NC), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), and Ed Case (D-HI) was today hosted by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
At the start of the meeting, the American lawmakers offered their congratulations to the president and the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country's independence.
The talks focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States and on the ways to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The parties commended the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, the high level of political dialogue, and the growing pace of contacts and mutual visits. In a recent phone call, the leaders of the two countries identified priority areas for further expanding their strategic partnership.
They focused on trade and economic cooperation, with the countries continuing to implement a three-year economic cooperation program that includes launching major projects in energy, critical minerals, transport, agriculture, digital technology and industry.
The meeting highlighted the significant role played by the U.S. Congress in supporting Uzbekistan's sweeping reform agenda and in advancing constructive, mutually beneficial dialogue between the two countries.
Special attention was also paid to expanding cooperation between Uzbek provinces and US states.
The two sides also exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to organize reciprocal visits by business delegations.
